CHEERY INGLESIDES

OTAHUHU AND POKENO

SCOTTISH PROGRAMMES SONGS AND HIGHLAND DANCING The Otahuhu Caledonian Society held its monthly ingleside in the Otahuhu Public Hall on Saturday night when members of the St. Andrew's Society, of New Lynn, were the guests of the evening. A large assembly of members and friends was welcomed by the chief, "Mr. R. A. Archibald, who, 'with the visitors, was played to the stage by Piper S. Paget. The hostesses were Mrs. J. Melvor and Mrs. White. Members of the visiting party contributed an excellent programme. Songs were sung by Messrs. G. Laurie and H. Brown and by Mrs. Havern, who also played the accompaniments. Scottish elocutionary numbers -were given by Mr. W. Kay, and Teels were danced by the Misses W. D. and J. McKenzie and Miss P. Bavics. The programme was directed by Messrs. A. W. Stewart and A. Stephen. Supper was served under the direction of the ladies' committee, comprising Mrs. Handling, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Greenall and Mrs. Geddes.

A most successful function was held in the Pokeno Public Hall when the local members of the Franklin Caledonian Society conducted their annual ingleside. The gathering numbered well over 300 and included visitors from Auckland, Hamilton, Pukekohe and Otahuhu, who were welcomed by the chieftain, Mr. B* Gulland. The chieftain and visiting officials were piped in by Mr. R. Watt. Scottish emblems and tartans were featured in the decorations and provided an attractive background for the programme, which included many of the old Scottish dances and songs. Solos were contributed by Mrs. A. Rattray and Mrs. F. Frean, and exhibitions of national dances were given by Nola Fleming, Audrey Bray, Doreen Gulland, Nancy Rodgers and Miss Roie Docherty, of Hamilton. The piano accompaniments were played by Mrs. A. McPherson and Mrs. Frean.

Greetings on behalf of the visitors were extended by Mr. J. M. Beas, of Otahuhu, who congratulated the local members on the success of their evening.
