HONOUR FROM KING FORMER OFFICER IN GUARDS A Benedictine monk who was formcrly an officer in the Grenadier Guards, went to Buckingham Palace on July 11 to receive the military M.B.E. .from the King. , His name appeared in the Birthday Honours list as Major lan George David Alastair Forbes, but he is now* known as Dom George Forbes, 0.5.8., housemaster of the junior house of Ampleforth College, Yorkshire. Although it is sixteen years since he entered the order as a novice, Father Forbes has kept up his military associations. He commands the college O.T.C. Ho was educated at Ampleforth and trained at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. After two years as an officer in the Guards, he became a monk, and later went to Oxford as an undergraduate, studied mathematics at St. Benet's Hall, and three years ago took the degree of M.A.
