DELAYS IN DEPARTMENT MINISTER GIVES REASON [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Friday Instancing to a deputation to-day some of the causes which made delay in the Social Security Department unavoidable in dealing with applications and in replying to letters. of inquiry the ,Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, who is temporarily in charge of the department, .said that very often the paucity of particulars given of cases was responsible for complaintg made. That made many inquiries necessary and those inquiries took time. In some cases of complaints the writers' addresses or signatures were omitted from the, letters, said, the Minister, and others failed to advise. the department of changes of address, and thus delay, and confusion resulted.
