MISSING ITALIAN
POLICE SEARCH ALL DAY REPORTED SEEN AT TAUPAKI BELIEVED PROCEEDING NORTH Police from Henderson and Helensville spent the whole of yesterday searching the countryside about Taupaki, 21 miles from Auckland, for the missing Italian, Gen®ero Valenzi, aged 44, a prohibited immigrant, who disappeared from the liner Wanganella early on Wednesday afternoon. A man answering to the description of Valenzi was reported to have been seen at Taupaki, which is between Swanson and Kumeu, on Thursday. He ; was stated to have been inquiring for an Italian or a Greek.
No time was lost by the. police in beginning a search, although for some days a close watch has # been kept for the missing man. The police reported last night that, he had not yet been found. Since the time he was seen it is thought that he may have been given a lift by a passing motorist or truck >. driver. He is believed to be proceed- - ing north, possibly for the gumfields, where there are fellow countrymen. Valenzi arrived by the Wanganella from Sydney as a passenger, but the papers in his possession were insufficient'
even to warrant his being given a temporary permit to land. The Customs authorities ordered his detention on board the vessel until further inquiries were made.
