INSTITUTE AFFAIRS
Otorohanga.—There was a large attendance of members, at the monthly meeting, at which Mrs. A. A. Smith presided. Beaten copper work was demonstrated by Mrs. Sanders (Hangatiki), and Mrs. Larson continued the Golden Thread. A bring and buy stall was held, also a display of articles from which exhibits for the To Kuiti winter show were chosen. The results of tjio competition (plain scones) were as follows: —Mrs. H. Smith, 1; Mrs. A. A. Smith, 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. A. Cook and Mrs. G. Coburn. Pukehina.—The Pukehina Women's. Institute recently celebrated its sixth birthday. There was a, large attendance of members, and visitors from Matata, Pongakawa and Paengaroa. Mrs. Wagner, a former president, and founder of the institute, was present from Opotiki. Mrs. T. C. Mikkelsen presided, and items were given by Mrs. Law, Mrs. S. Gunton, Mrs. W. Mortensen, Mrs. Head, Misses J., A. and F. Mikkelsen. Miss M. Mortensen and Barbara McCall. Presentations wero made to Mrs. T. C. Mikkelsen, Mrs. Wagner and,. Miss Ruby. Woison, Competitions were won by Mrs. Law and Mrs. Evans.
Holensville. —To celebrate the eighth birthday of the institute, nn At Homo was held, at which visitors from other women's organisations in the district wero entertained. Tho guests wero welcomed by tho president, Mrs. Lambert, assisted by Mrs. Brackebush. who presented each one with flowers. Items were contributed by Mrs. N. Hansen, Mrs. Brougli, Miss Carey, Miss Wilson and the glee club. A play was produced by Mrs. Warrington. Auckland Centre.—The executive members of tho institute entertained the officers of country institutes recently, 27 institutes being represented .by tho visitors. Tho president, Mrs. Brady, received tlio guests, assisted by Mrs. Colville, Miss Boston and Miss Sliophcrd, and each hostess received a posy. Tho occasion was the sixth birthday of tho institute. Items were given by the choir, Mrs. Rothery, Mrs. Stewart. Mrs. Borne, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. McMillan, Mrs. Herbert and Mrs. Rogers. Members of the junior circle wero also entertained recently. A travel talk was given by Mrs. St. Clair Woollains, and the making of floral sprays was demonstrated. Items were presented by Mrs. Home, and afternoon tea was served. Awaroa Bridge.—Mrs, McKenzie presided at the monthly mooting, and letters wero read from the Scottish link at Kiibarchan and from East Tamaki. A lecture on physical culture was given. Tho hostesses were Mrs. Cooper j»n<l Mrs. Cromwell. V [JmaWera. —Tho annual group meeting was hold recently, Mrs, Autori acting as president. M>s. Lees was the convener. Community singing was Jield, and members of th oTutckchua institute were hostesses for the day. Tutekehua and Omahuta.—A recent meeting was presided over by Mrs. Anton. Competition winners were as follows: —Musical wedding, . Mrs. Tulloek; photographs, Mrs! H. Robinson; social competition, Mrs. Canity and Mrs. ' Walker. Tho hostesses wore Mrs. i J. Croighton and Mrs, C.-M. Robertson.
