WELLINGTON REGIMENT gay scene at town hall LARGE NUMBER OF DANCERS [by telegraph OWN couhespondent] WEI/DINQTON, Friday < There were colour and military pomp nt the Wellington Town Hall to-night when the annual regimental ball of tho Ist Battalion, Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington's Own), was held. Nearly 1000 dancers including members of all the branches of the. services and

many civilians were present, tho ball being 0110 of the most successful of the current season.

Many vividly-coloured llags gave glamour to tlio decorations, prominent among whicli was the regiment's badge with tlio Duke of Wellington's crest "Virtutis Fortuna. Comes."

Coloured lights and many novelties gave further touches of gaiety. Tho regimental band in scarlet uniforms was in attendance as were also the regiment's pipers and drummers in tho new

full-dress uniform. Officers of the regiment wore scarlet mess jackets and tho men were in the new issue of blue uniforms. Ihese colours, together wifcli the iruiiiy bl'illiant hues to be seen in the frocks worn by the women dancers, produced a kaleidoscopic effect on the floor of tho hall. Supper was served in the concert chamber, which had also been attractively decorated. Tho host and hostess for the ball were Lieutenant-Colonel E. M. Stace and Mrs. Stace, who were assisted by Major A. L. George and Mrs. George. The dance committee consisted of Captain F. L. Mackenzie (chairman), Lieutenant E. W. Williams, Lieutenant R. L. Hutchens, Captain E. T. W. Love, Sergeant-Major M. S. Meyers, Sergeants Hooker, McCook and Carter, Corporal Boyle and Messrs. J. S. Hanna, Ashley, C. Singleton and G. T. Kollaway. Among tho guests were tho Mayor and Mayoress of Wellington, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, the Mayors and Mayoresses of near by districts, and numerous members of the newly-formed platoon associations.
