PRINCESSES WIN PRIZES KEENNESS IN TRAINING QUEEN WATCHES CONTESTS [from OUR OWN correspondent] LONDON, .Tuno 120 The Queen yesterday saw her (laughters win prizes in swimming competitions at • the Bath Club, Dover Street. They were loudly cheered by members and friends. One of the first things the Princesses told'the .King and Queen after Their Majesties' return from the Canadian and United States tour was that they were in training for the competitions. They confided their hopes of victory. Princess Margaret won the Children's Challenge Cup for children under nino years of age against eight other competitors. Princess, Elizabeth won tho Children's Challenge Shield Competition for girJs over nine and under 14 against 10 other competitors. The Queen saw the contests from the gallery which runs round tho swimming pool. The Princesses gave their mother no recognition when she entered beyond rising with 'tho other competitors.

Both events included one length brcaststroko, judged for stylo; ono width backstroke, .judged for stylo; ono width lifo-saving, in which competitors had to rescue an apparently drowning person, struggling slightly; and a divo from tho side of tho bath. Princess'F.lizabcth won with 35 points out of a possible iO. Princess Margaret had 35i points out of 40. In tho style swimming they went far ahead of their rivals.

Princess.' Margaret, after her win, drc3sed. and watched her sister's effort, dappiiig her hands, excitedly when, tho announcement of' Princess Elizabeth's win was made.

"They have trained very hard indeed and have been apt pupils,'' Miss Amy Daly, instructress at the club, said afterward.

"Princess Margaret was a little nervous when she began learning to swim, but soon got over that." The Queen presented the prizes, andshook each of the Princesses by the hand and whispered words of congratulation. Before leaving Her Majesty spoko to Miss Daly. "Their success is all due to you," the Queen told her.
