YOUNG MAN CHARGED PLAN TO MAKE HER HAPPY REMANDED FOR 4 SENTENCE A charge of stealing £l2, the property of a young woman, was denied by Walter William Rudduck, storeman. aged 20. who appeared before Mr. W. R. MeKean. S.M.. in the Police Court yesterday. Senior-Ser-geant Calwell prosecuted. Tho accused and another man had visited a room occupied hv the complainant, said Mr. Calwell. They knew where she kept some money. They left the house one evening to go to a party, and they left the party, went back to the room and stole the money. The other man had not yet been found but there was a warrant out for his arrest. Two statements made by accused to the police were road. In one statement he said he was aged 20 years and nine months, was unemployed, and receiving £1 a week sustenance. He said ho took the money, as he had asked the complainant to marry him and she had accepted. He later felt he could not marry for about two years, as his prospects were not bright, so he took the money to give her a good time and make her happy. In the other statement he said the other man had taken the money and he had received £4 of it. After accused had given evidence, the magistrate said he did not want to send him to prison and would remand him for sentence to-day.
