FAMOUS CANADIAN FORCE

TALK BY CAPTAIN V. RICE

A brief outline of the history of the Royal North-West Mounted Police, and some amusing anecdotes culled from his own experiences as a member of the force, were given by Captain Vernon Pice when addressing those present at the fortnightly business girls' luncheon in the Milne and Choyco Reception Hall yesterday. Captain Rice was introduced by Mr. E. McDonald.

Captain Rico explained that when the North-West Mounted Police wore established in IST.'! as a permanent constabulary of mounted riflemen, the whole (if the great north-west ot Canada was patrolled by only 100 men. The force had since increased to 700 men, who rode about 30 miles a dav and ' spent about 20 days of each month in the saddle. "The influence of the Xorth-wcst Mounted Police was, 1 consider, the greatest factor in the building up of the north-west of Canada." he said.
