SOVIET MACHINES 49 BROUGHT DOWN JAPANESE CLAIM MANCHUKUO BORDER By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received Juno 2-1, 32.15 a.m.) TOKIO, June 23 A communique from Hsingking states that a severe clash occurred between Russians and Japanese on the Manchukuo border. Eighteen Japanese aeroplanes weut aloft and brought down 49 of 150 Russian aeroplanes which had crossed the border. I'ive Japanese machines crashed. The communique adds that over a dozen Soviet aeroplanes had repeatedly crossed the frontier since Monday, bombing various centres in Manchukuo. Protests were ignored.
