The Sheep Rises in the Social Scale

Wool Dominates ; Fashion's Realm

rpHE latest scheme of the International Wool Secretariat has been the selection of Miss Irene Crossland as Wool Queen of Great Britain for one year of office starting from-March 22. when she was officially croWned. says an overseas correspondent. The idea is that she will attend many important public functions during this year, and will show off her trousseau "of woollen clothes at various stores throughout the country. This trousseau all wool, from lingerie to evening coats shows the desirability, beauty and practical virtues of wool in its many modern guises. It proves that wool can be used all the year round, and right through the twenty-four hours of the day. Laay Maureen Stanley, president of,, the Fashion' Group of Great Britain, Mrs. Garland, and a representative of the International Wool Secretariat have been responsible for the choosing of it. The trousseau starts with husky tweeds, sophisticated suits, fine crushproof printed woollens for afternoon parties in summer, and includes dinner and full evening gowns and the gossamer wool lingerie which delighted Paris last autumn. Outstanding colour for day wear is a bamboo shade used for a tailored suit of Cumberland tweed checked with red and' brown; for a town suit with interesting inset waistcoat and beaver wool skirt?; ' for a' herringbone striped overcoat in bamboo and beaver Yarrowvale tweed; for an-afternoon coat with inset corselet rwaistband and flared skirt. The trousseau also includes beachwear, slacks, swim suits, a delightful pleated blouse in turquoise diaphanous fabric 80 per cent wool, 20 per cent silk.
