BUILDERS PROTEST

ASSOCIATION'S VIEW THE STOP-WORK GATHERING DISORGANISING BUSINESS ALL JOBS TO BE OPEN A declaration that they considered the stop-work meeting proposed for today by tho Auckland carpenters and joiners to bo unconstitutional and illegal was made by a meeting of tho Auckland Master Builders' Association yesterday. It was decided to havo all jobs open for work this morning. This means that while the men are free to attend tho stop-work meeting if they choose, they will loso tho time they take off. Tho following resolution was carried unanimously:— "That the strongest possiblo protest bo mado against the action of the Carpenters and Joiners' Union in calling a stop-work meeting to discuss a matter which is solely between tho Arbitration Court and the unions. It is considered that the stop-work meeting is distinctly unconstitutional and illegal, and it will simply havo tho effect of tjisorganising tho building business and effect tho public generally at a time when delays aro very undesirable." Tho resolution also added that tho meeting confidently expected the Government would take notice of its protest. It was decided to forward a copy of tho resolution to the Minister of Labour, tho Hon. P. C. Webb.
