SIR HENRY NORMAN INTERESTING CAREER By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received June 5, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. June 4 The death has occurred of Sir Henry Norman. Sir Henry Norman, first baronet, was a director of several colliery companies. He was born at Leicester in September. 1858, and was educated privately in France, at Harvard University, and at Leipzig University. After graduation he inaugurated the public agitation for the national preservation of Niagara Falls, which resulted in their subsequent purchase by the State of New York.
Sir Henry, for several years, was on the editorial staff of the Pall Mall Gazette. Later be joined the editorial staff of the Daily Chronicle, and was its assistant editor.. 1895. He retired from journalism in 1898. He had toured the United Stntes and Canada, and travelled and explored in Japan. Russia. Siberia. Central Asia. Korea. China. Siam, the Malay Peninsula. Egypt and the Balkans. Sir Henry in 1902 founded The World's Work. He was honorary secretary of the Budget League, 1909; •Assistant Postmaster-General. 1910: a member of the Air Council, 191S; chairman of the War Office Committee on Wireless Telegraphy. 1012: and n member of the Inventions Panel. Ministry of Munitions. With Lady Norman, he established the British Hospital at Wimereux, 1914-15, which treated MOO officers and men. He was liaison officer of the Ministry of Munitions with the Ministry of Inventions, Paris, with the rank of staff captain, 1916; and Major, 1917. He was chairman of the Imperial Wireless Telegraphy Committee. 1920. appointed to draw up a complete wireless scheme lor the Empire, besides holding several other posts of a si in i
lar nature. The heir to the baronetcy is Mr H. N. St. V. Norman, aeronautical consultant, chairman of Airwork, Limited, Heston, and Squadron-Leader in the Auxiliary- Air Force Reserve, born in Mav. 1897.
