MONEY TRANSFERS
VISITING COMPANIES CHOIR LEAVES CASH '.'AVAILABLE IN FEW WEEKS ■ONLY FIVE FOUNDS TAKEN Like tho American singer, Mr. Richard Crooks, tho Vienna Boys' Choir left New Zealand without tho proceeds of its tour in this country when the Aorangi sailed for Sydney last livening. Mrs. H. Marsh, who supervise;! the business arrangements of the choir, said before the vessel sailed that they had been told they would be able to get 'the money in three weeks. Meanwhile ishe had been given only live Australian £1 notes. Tho conductor of the choir, Dr. G. G ruber,- said they had known about; the exchange restrictions belore reaching .'Xew Zealand and-, consequently, no inconvenience was caused through not 'being able to take the proceeds ol the •tour. They had American currency. and funds were waiting in Australia. Payment of Visiting Artists In any case, Dr. Gruber added, the choir did not seek to make profits. It •was a cultural organisation and aimed jnerolv at making the living and educational expenses of the boys. Consequently the proceeds of the tour were not large. ""In a telephone conversation from 'Wellington with the Hkkat.d a representative of a theatrical concern said that visiting artists were normally paid in Xew Zealand currency and what: they did with the money was a matter for themselves. However, it was understood • that while earlier in tho year artists had apparently been able to transfer the proceeds of their tours, difficulty \i,vas now being experienced. Company's Money Being Hell . Most of the money earned by the company which recently toured the Dominion playing "The Women" had not ;s,o far .been transferred and was being 'lield. In this ease the players would not M>e inconvenienced as under their contracts they were to be paid in Australia. Money orders for £5 a week could ")l)'e sent from New Zealand and it was that somo visiting artists siad adopted this method of having their }noney sent overseas. It was not }et known what the. position would fce for the future or if the situation would .pffect visits by companies and artists.
