CAR RELICENSING
ANNUAL BUSY PERIOD / SPECIAL STAFF ENGAGED PROGRESS "OF REGISTRATION A special staff is now relicensing motor vehicles at the Town Hall concert chamber at the rate oi about 1200 a day. Although the total registrations so far are slightly higher than those at the corresponding date last year the comparison between the totals is not so favourable when tho increased number of vehicles now in use is taken into consideration. Registrations lor 1f1.'19-'lO made up to yesterday were between 1.'1,000 and 14,000. The figure 011 May 25 last year was only slightly lower. All vehicles on the road 011 June 1 are required to carry the now number-plates, and it is estimated that there are about 25,000 vehicles to be registered in Auckland. This means that some 13,000 vehicles remain to bo registered in tho four and a-half working days before the end of the month. The bureau will be open until 110011 on Saturday. The staff 011 duty at tho concert chamber has been augmented to meet tho extra work involved. The number of counter clerks on duty is varied to suit requirements, and every effort is being made to effect relicensing with a minimum of delay. For the convenience of its members the Automobile Association (Auckland) has opened a bureau in premises in Queen Street above the Town Hall. Members may present their lilled-in forms, with the necessary money, to the staff on duty, and call the following day to collect their new numberplates.
