TRIALS ON THE GEASS LOYAL. DIRECT GOES NICELY FINE EFFORT BY THREE BELLS BY ABAYDOS. Some fine sprints wore registered at Epsom yesterday, when the eourso proper, with the poles out 50 feet, was available and the going .was dead. Loyal Direct took the honours by running the last half-mile of his work in 1.7. Three Bells, 1.7 3-5, Our McKinney and Luminate, ].B, and Amywyn and Post. Haste, 1.0, also went well. Air Pilot and Big Kauri did best of the trotters by recording 1.12. On the dirt track, which was in great order, Star Pronto did easily the best by registering 1.4. Three Bells (E. N. Kennerly) jumped away clear of Loyal Direct (G. McNickle) and was in front at the end of a mile and a-quarter in 3.1. The last half-mile was run in 1.7 3-5 and Three Bells worked pleasingly. He may not start to-morrow, as Kcnnerley lias Shrewdie in the same race. Loyal Direct, who has freshened up since his strenuous campaign on the West Coast circuit, put dash into her final effort. Sir Tony (L. X. Vernalli trotted a mile and a-lialf in -1.0, the last hallmile in 1.10. Honey Pot (S. M. August) leading over the last mile and a-quarter in 3.18 3-5.. Air Pilot Trots Solidly Black Native (J. Flanagan) worked a mile and a-half in 3.52 3-5, the first mile in 2.38. He is in splendid condition. Air Pilot (P. Scrimgour) went solidly over a mile and a-half in 3.50. the first mile taking 2.38 and the last half mile 1.12. He looks all the better for his racing at Hawera and Awapuni. Canadian (C. M. Morrison) gave Gold Kip (Lavcr) a start of four seconds and beat him over a mile and a-half in 3.57, trotting the last halfmile solidly in 1.14 3-5. Except for a slight skip, Gold Kip-gave a fair display. After following Narbada . (W. A. Price) to the straight. Double Peter (G. McNickle) finished strongly to complete a mile and a-quarter in 3.5. It was a useful effort for a novice. Narbada, who ran 3.6 2-5, shaped much better than on Tuesday. Eighteen Carat (S. M. August) ran two miles unhoppled in 4.55, the first mile in 2.30 and mile and a-half in 3.42. Only for breaking at the head of the straight, he would have gone much faster than 1.16 for the last halfmile. Frank Redmond (A. Brown) went a mile and a-half in 4.4. Dick Redmond (A. T. Newdick). who gave him a start of three seconds, was with him at the end of .'i mile in 2.44, but broke badly in the run home, leaving Frank Redmond an easy winner in 4.4. Our McKinney Finishes On

Luminate (X. Mahoney) and Post Haste (L. J. Mahoney) set out to no a mile and a-half, but there was no pace' Over the first quarter owing to the latter Failing to settle down. Once he found his gait, Post Haste set a lively pace, but Luminate shaded him in the final stages to complete the last mile and a-quarter in 3.1. It was a sound effort, and Luminate finished attractively to run the last quarter in 33 3-ss. Post Haste went well once he got properly balanced. Forest Jewel (L. Mitchell) conceded Ringstone (W.
