ADDINGTON CARD

EVENTS ON SATURDAY JUVENILE STAKES CONTEST SIXTEEN IN WINTER HANDICAP [by telegraph—PßESS association] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday The Canterbury Park Trotting Club iias received the following acceptances for its winter meeting, to bo held at Addington 011 Saturday:—

SURVOY RETURNS NORTH STEEPLECHASE CANDIDATE

BLACK THREAD AND RAANA

Stirvoy, who is trained at Washdvke by E, J. Ellis, will arrive in Auckland to-day with a view to contesting the Great Northern Steeplechase, in which he has 9.0. Tn his last two starts, Survoy has won the Longbench Hurdles at the Ashburton County Pacing Club's meeting at Biccarton and the Levels Hurdles at Timaru. His last previous success was in the Champion Hack Handicap at Bivcrton. Last season he won the Otautau Steeples and the Bangiora Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, and in the 1936-37 season, when trained by W. Townsend at Takanil.ll', he ran third in the Greenmount Hunters' Steeples at tho Pakuranga Hunt meeting, as well as winning middle-distance races on the fiat.

Black Thread and Baana left Gisborne yesterday to compete at the Ellerslie meeting. Both are reported to be in excellent order and Baana, whose mission will be the Carbine Plate, will have the services of Mr. Henry Dods.

TURF JOTTINGS TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP Snigger's three recent placed performances suggest that she will win a maiden event before long. Redolent's tour in the North Island has been rather disastrous. He had shown good form in private at Riecarton, but both at Otaki and at Awapuni 011 tho second day he fell. Tn the list compiled by the Racing Conference showing the safety limit of fields on all the racecourses of New Zealand, the Oamaru course is _ shown as*the only one with a safety limit of 30 horses at every starting post. F. B. Foster has been engaged to ride Agog in the Great Northern Hurdles and Roxy in the Great Northern Steeplechase. Slight soreness prevented Boxy from racing at To Bapa, but it is expected that ho will be fit for Ellerslie. Taxation amounting to £7051 8s 3d has been paid in connection with the Waikato Racing Club's recent meeting. Taxation on the February meeting amounted to £7445 19s 3d, and on the winter meeting last year, to £6130 14s 3d. Erebus was expected to make his mark as a hurdler this wintor, after winning over the battens at Marton and Waverley in the spring, but lie will not receive much acclaim for winning a two-horse race at Awapuni on Saturday. Entail, a long-striding horse, suffered a check at a critical stage of tho Manawatu Winter Cup, in which he finished fourth. On the second day, with every chance, he ran another good race, but* had to strike his colours to Galteemore. ~ After racing at the Waikato Bacing Club's Winter Meeting, tho former To Aroha-trained Mon Acre was transferred to W. J. McLean's stable at Ellerslie McLean won races with Mon Acre when he had her in his charge last season, and plio looks particularly well nt present to continue her preparation. Bonnie Hollox reappeared 011 the Biccarton tracks this week and was given strong work on tho plough. Ho hns had a course of sea water treatment, and is believed to bo quite sound again. If ro, lie will be n welcome addition to tho ranks of steeplechasers as there is 110 doubt about his brilliance when in his right form. LATEST SCRATCHINGS Stansted was scratched for tho Great Northern Hurdles and the Groat Northern Steeplechase nt the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting afc 9 a.m. yesterday.
