JUVENILE CHOIR

FIRST CONCERT OF SEASON Clioral singing of a good standard and varied instrumental and vocal numbers were feature? of the opening concert of the Auckland Juvenile Choir's third season, held in the Lewis Lady Hall last night. The juvenile choir was assisted by a ladies' choir. Showing the result of careful training the choirs, which were conducted bv Miss Tdu Holmes, acquitted themselves well in a difficult programme. The. first number was a two-part version ot Bach's "Jcsu, Joy of Man's Desiring, in which both choirs participated. The juvenile choir wa>s heard alone in "Spring Winds," by Thiman, "Happy Day," by 'Mendelssohn, and "The Gentle Sounding Flute," by Rathbone, while the two again combined in the final number, the Spinning Chorus from Wagner's "Flying Dutchman." ' Tho ladies' choir sang Sullivan's "Orpheus With His Lute" and "Tho Gentle Maiden," by Lavater, Solos were given bv Miss Lois Walls, viola; Mr. Leo Whitakcr, piano, and Miss J. Heath-Preest and Miss Rosamund Cnradus, sopranos, and a vocal trio was sung'by Misses Caradus, Mary Uffindoll niul Fnyc Walsh. A piano and viola number was also played by Miss Walls and Mr. Whitaker. The accompanist was Mrs. Roger Krrington, while Mr. Alfred Eacjy played an organ accompaniment to the Bach chorale which opened the programme.
