By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Independent Cable Service (Received May 10, 11.40 p.m.) LONDON, May 10 The Polish press, following 'German newspaper tactics, has launched a campaign accusing Germany of ill-treating Poles and wrecking Polish buildings in German Silesia, and brutally expelling Poles from East- Prussia. The Polish Parliament unanimously - nnd demonstratively passed a bill vestjn<r in the President special powers. On Friday' Parliament voted emergency powers' 5 to the Government until , November 1, enabling it to deal with nil economic, financial and defence matters without Parliamentary sanc- , tion.
PACTS REJECTED SCANDINAVIAN STATES OFFER BY HERR HITLER FOREIGN / MINISTERS DECIDE LONDON, May O The Foreign -Ministers of Sweden, Korway, Finland and Denmark, who met to discuss Herr Hitler's offer of - non-aggression pacts, decided to reject the offer. The Foreign Ministers issued a state- — inent that it'was decided to maintain last year's declaration to .remain outside all group's of-European Powers and i, 'd'o their utmost to avoid being involved in the event of war. » * The Ministers will jointly welcome an expression from other countries in respect to the northern countries' integrity and independence. The results of the conference will be submitted to the respective countries.
GERMANS IN MOROCCO ACTIVITY INCREASING MANY BROUGHT BY AIRCRAFT LONDON, May 5 Tho Tangier correspondent of the Daily Telegraph, who has just toured Spanish Morocco, was the first English journalist there for many months. He says that there is no*fear of an immediate attempt to invade Tangier by force, but. in the event of a general war, it would immediately become a very important objective. "More than 30,000 Spanish and Moorish troops recently returned to Morocco," he says. "Sometimes soldiers can be heard in the streets , shouting, ■'Now for Tangier,' and belongs to Spain.' . "German activity is increasing. German aeroplanes are landing' several times a week, bringing 'technicians,' of whom some remain and some leave after a few days. Forty of these men were officially stated to be members of a cinematograph unit. Fortifications are being built at Larache and else- / where near the French Moroccan frontier. "An incalculable factor in the German and 'Spanish schemings is the Moor, since it is qustionable whether the Spanish Moor would fight the French Moor."
WAR•HOAX IN HOBART FALSE NOTICES POSTED , SEARCH FOR PERPETRATORS HOBART, May 10 The residents of Hobart were alarmed by war hoax notices stating , that Herr Hitler had marched into Poland, and that Poland, Britain and Frsnce were mobilising. The notices were posted on newspaper and other buildings in the city in the lunch hour yesterday. The authorities quickly announced that the statements were without foundation, but the news spread like wildfire. The' Premier of Tasmania, Mr. A. G. Ogilvie, instructed the police to make every effort to trace the offenders. The Governor, Sir Ernest Clark, speaking at the University commemoration ceremony in the Town Hall, said that when the perpetrators were found they should be severely punished as % enemies of the State, if not confined in a mental hospital. The Chancellor of the University, Mr. —IW. J. Stops, said later that he resented fte "cheerful assumption" that the hoax was perpetrated by undergraduates. 1
