OLD THAMES GIRLS
MONTHLY MEETING ENJOYABLE FUNCTION The monthly meeting of the Old Thames Girls' Association, held in tho Methodist schoolroom, Pitt Street, yesterday afternoon, proved an enjoyable function. The president, Mrs. Alfred Oldham presided. As a mark of respect to tho memory of the late Miss M. Carnie, who had been an enthusiastic member of the association for nearly 13 years, a minute's silence was observed by members. Tho speaker was the Rev. J. Halliday, who took for his subject the power and influence of women in the world. Mr. Halliday expressed tho opinion that tho homo lifo which existed 30 or 40 years ago had been a tremendous power for good, and tho lack of it in tho lives of the young people of today was tho cause of much distress in the world at th«s present time.
A programme of songs by Mrs. K. Eosser and the Rev. Kverill Orr, recitations by Miss E. F. Wells, and pianoforte solos by Mrs. N-. Walker, wcro enjoyed. The arrangements for afternoon tea were in the charge of tho convener, Mrs. M. Dawson.
