AUCKLAND CENTRE'S RACES
The first open road races of the 1030 season, under the control of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association, wero held on Saturday, under ideal weather conditions. A close finish was witnessed in the senior event, of 25 miles, in which Johnston, of tho Northern club, secured fastest time by a second from H. Hawke, A. Keith being third. Tho seniors raced over tho Birdwood Hill course, which includes four miles of metal surface nnd 21 miles of sealed roading. The junior event was contested to To Atatu and back. Results were as follows: Seniors. —G. H. Cunningham (Northern), 2m 30s, 1: J. B. Johnston (Northern), 2m, 2; E. W. Buchanan (Manukau), 5m 30s, 3; A. M. Keith (Northern), 2m, 4; L. E. Jeffries (Northern), 5m 30s, 5; W. R. Walker (Manukau), 5m 30s, 6. Fastest times: J. Johnston (Northern), 1; H. Hawke (Lynndale), 2; A. Keith (Northern), 3. Time, 111 4m 41s. Juniors.—J. Guppy (Northern), 3m 30s, 1; M. Kimber (Northern), 4m 30s, 2; R. F. Flinkenbery (Manukau), 3. Fastest times: S. Brown (Northern), 1: L. P. Mills (Manukau), 2; W. Kirker (Northern), 3. Time, 34 tn 475. PROFESSIONAL MEETING There was a good attendance of members at tho third series of meetings of tho Auckland Professional Cycle Club held at Sylvia Park. The junior event was won comfortably by D. Ross. An exciting struggle for fastest time was witnessed in the senior event, in which Fish defeated Cliappell and Kerr by narrow margins. Results wero as follows: — Seniors. —T. Hookham, 7in, 1; R. Gilmour, (ill) 40s, 2; H. Fletcher. 7m, 3. Time. 50m lis., Fastest timo: K. Fish, 46m 7s. Juniors. —D. Ross, am, 1; B. Taylor, 20m 3s, 2; F. Hunt, scr, 3. Time, 22m 255. Fastest time: F. Hunt, 10m 345. METROPOLITAN CLUB The Metropolitan Cycling Club opened Its 1030 road season on the Glcndowie course on Saturday, the result being as follows: D. King, Bm, 1; S. Marshall, 12m, 2; J. Huckstep, 7m, 3. Fastest time: D. King, 54m 24 a. HAMILTON CLUB Lfrom our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Sunday Tho Hamilton Amateur Cycling Club held a road raco from Hamilton East post office to Tamahere and back, a distance of ten miles, yesterday. Following was the result:— R. McKenzie, 1; J. Scott, 2; R. Shaw, 3. Time, 25m 4s. McKenzie secured the fastest timo with 24m 4s.
