PAYMENT OF RATES

HOUSES OWNED BY STATE NEW PROCEDURE ADOPTED Current rates will be paid by the State Advances Corporation as soon as possible after rate demands have been sent in. as a result of the granting bv the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, of a request to that effect from the Auckland and Suburban Local Bodies' Association. The corporation pays rates in proportion to the amount of the full rent received on residential properties owned by or mortgaged to the State. The custom in the past has been not to pay the rates within a local body's financial year.. That procedure had thrown a lot of extra work on local body officers, tlip amounts having to be. carried forward as rates in arrears. The Minister's decision will apply also to county councils.
