FARMER ASSISTED

MR. LYONS' GENEROSITY GUARANTEE OF OVERDRAFT MELBOURNE. April 20 It has been revealed that just before Mr. J. A. Lyons' death a struggling dairy farmer at Leongatlia, Victoria, wrote seeking his influence with the Closer Settlement Board to obtain an advance to buy more cattle. The man's appeal so touched Mr. Lyons thru, after ascertaining that further State assistance was unobtainable, he personally guaranteed the man's overdraft. The sum involved was £6O. The guarantee lapsed by death, but the publicity given to the story published in the Argus led a woman to offer to take over the guarantee. She is now making arrangements with the man's bankers.
