Herbert, the Life Guards, who broke his neck racing at Leicester lact year, won a hurdle event for amateur riders at Sandown Park recently on Henri's Choice, a horse who broke his neck at Liverpool three years ago. After his accident at Liverpool, it was thought that Henri's Choice would have to be shot, but, as an experiment, a veterinary surgean set the animal's neck in plaster and he gradually Wended and returned to the turf. For three months after his Leicester accident, Captain Herbert was also provided with a plaster jacket and collar and he was racing again a few weeks after the support was removed. "When I mounted the grey at Sandown," ho remarked, "1 said to myself, '"With so much in common between us we are bound to win.' "
