SOCCER GAME

THE COMING SEASON CONSIDERATION OF ENTRIES PROMOTION FOR GREY LYNN Entries for the senior division competition of the Auckland Football Association were discussed at'last night's meeting of the control board, presided over by Mr. J/. Munro. The secretary, Mr. W, Harrison, advised that he had applications from nine of last season's senior clubs, the tenth club, MetroCollege, having intimated that it could not field a team. In addition, there was an entry from the Grey Lynn Club, the runner-up in the second division last season. Discussion followed as to the advisability of nine clubs comprising the division, thereby making a bye each Saturday. The suggestion was made that the team with tho bye could travel to other sub-associations or play visiting merchant ships or naval teams. This did not meet with the approval of the majority of the members and it was agreed to admit Grey Lynn to the fiu»t senior division, which will consist of the following teams: —Thistle, Ponosnby, Onehunga, Y.M.C.A., North Shore, Abels, Mount Albert Grammar Old Boys, Eastern Suburbs, Comrades, Grey Lynn. The secretary stated that entries in other divisions showed an increase, there being 11 entries in the second division and nine in tho third division.

Tho junior management committee reported that, while it had extended its entries until Saturday week, those already received gave promise of a decided increase. Mr. A. P. Neesham, solo selector, said that everything was in readiness for the match between teams representing English-born players and Scottish-born players at Blandford Park next Saturday. Physical Training The value of the physical recreation work being conducted by Mr. M. Alach in connection with the training of prospective representative players was stressed by the chairman. He said that a lecture and demonstration of muscle control and various exercises would be held at Blandford Park next Sunday morning. It was agreed that an opportunity should be given club coaches and trainers to view the demonstration, and it was decided to extend an invitatic-n to them.

The junior management committee advised that, where its junior divisions were divided into two sections, each section would be treated as a separate championship. In view of this alteration, the control board was asked to givo a ruling as to the system of allotting points for the Ritchie Cup, which is a trophy presented to the club gaining the most points in all grades. It was pointed out by members that there was the possibility of teams belonging to the same club winning both sections and, if points were allotted to winner of each Beclion, an undue advantage would be gained by that club over another which had only one team in the grade. It was stated that the intention of tho donor had been to induce clubs to foster as many junior teams as possible. It was therefore agreed thai his wishes would bo met by ruling that, Tor the purpose of allotting points, each section should be treated as a separate championship. Appreciative remarks were made regarding the action of the Referees' Association in deciding to send referees to club meetings to explain the laws of the game. Jt was decided to circularise the clubs in order to ascertain tho dates on which they desired visits from referees.

Member's Resignation Offing to business reasons Mr. D. McLaren tendered his resignation from the board, which was accepted with regret. Tho filling of the vacancy caused considerable discussion, as the constitution of the association provides for th<} board filling any such vacancy. It was felt, by several members that the clubs should send in nominations. This was opposed by other members. It was finally agreed that the clubs should forward nominations and that the board would make the final selection. The Blandford Park superintendent, Mr. W. Cole, reported that the ground, while in:need of rain, was in good condition and that- the improvements being effected were proceeding rapidly. The Referees' Association advised that its selector, Mr. A. Kyle, ™d appointed Mr. G. C. Edwards to referee the England versus Scotland match, with Messrs. J. Oates and E. Williams as linesmen. These appointments were confirmed. The secretary stated that lie had received a number of entries for the seven-a-sido tourney to bo staged at Blandford Park on Saturday week, but that there were still several to come. It was agreed to make the draw as soon as possible and to adviso the Referees' Association of the various details in connection with the running of the tourney. It was resolved that the admission charges to Blandford Park for club matches should be : —Ground: Men, Is; ladies, (id. Stand: 6d extra. The Ponsonby Club was granted permission to receive a visit from the Huntly Starr club on Saturday week.
