RAISING OF FUNDS

WOMEN'S' ASSOCIATION MEETING AT BIRKENHEAD REVIEW OF YEAR'S WORK The annual meeting of the Birkenhead Women's Association, held in tho Returned Soldiers' Hall yesterday afternoon, was well attended. The Mayoress, Mrs. E. J. Osborne, presided. Tho year's activities were reviewed at length by Mrs. A. E. Wood. An important feature of the work undertaken was the raising of funds for various appeals. The sum of £SB 10s had been collected for the Poppy Day fund, and £42 Is for tho &t. John Ambulance Association. The Wilson Home for Crippled Children had been helped considerably, and donations made to the Society for'the Protection i of Women and Children, tho Chinese Relief Fund, and other causes. In ad- , dition, a hamper was provided for the patients of the Mental Hospital. The financial statement submitted by Mrs. E. B. Carr showed a satisfactory position. . ~ In response to the request or tho Birkenhead Returned Soldiers' Association, members volunteered to collect at Birkenhead on Poppy Day, under the ! direction of the Mayoress. To provide the nucleus of a fund from which donations to special appeals could ' be made, including the Wilson Homo : for Crippled Children, a bring-and-buv stall was hold. This was in the charge of Mrs C. W. Inwards. Mrs. Stanley Mills and Mrs. A. W. Clow, and realised £6 lis 7jd. , . It was decided to he represented at the meeting on Thursday evening to form a branch at Birkenhead of tho , . Red Cross Society.
