NEW RESERVOIR
WATER FOR INDUSTRY great westfield demand SUPPLY FROM THE CITY I A start has been made with construction of a small service reservoir on Hamlin's Hill, near Westfield, as part of the City Council's plan to meet the demand for city water by .various plants in the Westfield industrial area. About two years ago the council's waterworks department laid a 10-inch main on railway pro per tj* from Green Lane to Westfield and this main will be used to supply the new reservoir. The reservoir will be in the form of a huge circular concrete tank, built partly underground. The elevated site has already been excavated and the concrete foundation has been laid. Workmen are at present engaged in placing in position the steel reinforcing for the bottom of the tank. On this the enclosing wall of reinforced concrete will be erected. The tank will have a diameter of 110 feet and it will hold water to a depth of IS feet. The wall is to be 9in. thick, heavily reinforced with steel and supported by buttresses. When tho City Council decided to lay the main and provide the reservoir established industries at Westfield guaranteed to take 25,000,000 gallons of water a year, but since that time the demand has been greatly in excess of that quantity.
