PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT TITLE-HOLDERS DEFEATED [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday The Auckland provincial polo tournament commenced at the Claudelands showgrounds to-day. There was a Rood attendance and some closely-contested frames were witnessed. The matches in the junior cup series resulted in wins for Glen Murray A and Wai-' mai A. Waimai B had a bye. All-round superiority was responsible foi the win secured by the Cambridge B team over Morrinsville A in the first match of the senior series. In the first half of the game Cambridge overwhelmed the opposition, but Morrinsville rallied in the final chukkas. The principal attraction was the meeting - of Cambridge A, holders of the Provf.ncial Cup, and Matangi A. In the early stages Matangi were on tho attack and at the end of the third chukkj were leading by 4 goals to 2. In the succeeding chukkas Matangi increased their lead, and the final score was: Matangi, 8; Cambridge. 4. The brilliant play of G. Peake was largely responsible for Matangi's win. < The opening handicap matches and the semi-finals of the junior cud will be played to-morrow. Results were:— Junior Cup.—Glen Murray A, 3 goals, beat Cambridge C, 1; Waimai A, 10, beat Cambridge D, .1; Matangi B, 10, beat Morrinsville B, 0.
