MAORI CHILD DROWNED
FALL INTO WARM POOL WHAKAREWAREWA TRAGEDY [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] EOTORUA, Tuesday An 18-months-old Maori boy, Hona Hetekia Waaka, was discovered drowned in a warm washing pool situated at tho rear of his parents' home in the Whakarewarewa Maori village. It was stated at the inquest to-day that the child was playing about the house and, while the mother went away to attend to another infant, he apparently wandered toward the washing pool. Although tho pool is protected with a post aud wire fence, it was stated that the child was fond of swinging on tho wire, and in doing so probably let go its hold and fell into the water, which was about 2ft. deep. A verdict of accidental death was returned by tho coroner, Mr. W. L. Richards.
