ROYAL AKAEANA CLUB FAST TIMES RECORDED TAMARIKI'S PERFORMANCE BY SPIN DRIFT Although light weather conditions prevailed on Saturday afternoon, fast times were recorded by the boats that took part in the Royal Akarana Yacht Club's races to Rooky Bay, Waiheke.

In tho race for 18ft. V class, Jeanette, which finished first, covered tlie journey—13.J miles—in 2h 14m 58s. The mullet boats and keel yachts were required to observe all fairway marks, making the course for their races a mile longer than that for the 18-footers. Tamariki, which has the record of finishing first eight times since December in the races for classes L and N, sailed the course in 2h 19m 355. The H class boat Calypso, which finished first in her class, took 2m 15s longer than Tamariki to cover the same course. The Rainbow's time for the journey was 2h 7m 17s. The new B class yacht Aramoana, which finished next to Rainbow, was only 3m 55s longer on the passage than her larger rival. The British-designed and built B class keel yacht Altair, lately owned by Colonel A. C. Amy, of Howick, has been purchased bv Mr. A. \Y alker, of Auckland. Altair is 36ft. by 7ft. 6in. and has a draught of sft. Gin. She is built of mahogany with elm frames, and before being shipped to Auckland a few years ago raced in the improved West Solent one-design class. The motor-sailer Oui, lately owned by Mr. A. G. Rylands, has been purchased by Mr. J. 0. Hives, of Russell. The Oui has already arrived at her destination, and on the way up the coast made calls at Whangarei and Tutukaka. The 38ft. by 9ft. Gin. launch Leitner has been sold by Mr. A. Donovan to Mr. L. C. Standen, of Levin. The Leitner is now on her way to Wellington, and in future will be kept at Paremata.

The 22ft. L class boat Marie, lately owned by Mr. J. Maltby, has been purchased by Messrs. 11. Reehal and M. Bales, of Birkenhead. Mr. F. J. Lidgard has sold the C class keel yacht Konini to his brother. Mr. R. Lidgard.

The well-known 38ft. B class keel yacht Rangi, lately owned by Messrs. Mcßeth, Don and S. Parrelly, has been purchased by Messrs. C. W. Cook and I. W. Thompson. Mr. F. W. Jackson has purchased the 28ft. auxiliary keel yacht Wakanui from Messrs. H. Kidd and Moss. The 24ft. short-end keel vac-lit Moongallapa has been purchased by Mr. H. C. Lidgard. REGATTA AT HAMILTON

AUCKLAND BOATS TO COMPETE

The newly-formed Hamilton Yacht Club will hold its first annual regatta on the lake at Hamilton on Saturday afternoon. With the object of assisting the Hamilton club the YVakatere Boating Club is sending five Frostbite sailing dinghies to take part in the regatta. Two sailing boats are also being transported by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club and several small boats will be railed from Rotorua to Hamilton to compete in the regatta. In addition to tlx? sailing events ■ a programme of swimming races will also be carried out.

The Victoria Cruising Club will hold its annual "cup day" on Saturday afternoon, when harbour races will be field for all classes. The 26ft., 22it. and 20ft: mullet boats will race for the Casey Cup, the keel yachts for the Martin Cup, the 18it. and 1611. classes for the Rao Cup. the 14ft. classes tor the Boonstra" Memorial Trophy, and class Z for the Roongana Cup. The first L or N class boat to finish will be entitled to hold the Whitebait Cup tor 12 months.

The annual inter-club contest for the Dulux Cup for 18ft. V class boats will be held by the Point Chevalier Sailing Club on Sunday. The conditions governing the race provides that each club is permitted to enter two boats. The Riptide and Jewel will represent the Point Chevalier Club.

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron has decided to postpone the annual harbour race for the GovernorGeneral Cup and other keel yacht races until April 1. The race for the Drysdale Cup and miniature for M class, with crews under 21 years of age, will be held on Saturday afternoon, starting and finishing off King's Wharf. The inter-club contest for the Watson Bay Trophy for M and V 18ft. class yachts will be held by the Tamaki Yacht Club on April 29. The long-distance race for the Balokovic Cup, controlled by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, will start from .Judge's Bay at 7.30 p.m. on Friday. The course is from starting line, thence round Canoe Rock, off Kawau, thence round Channel Island, off Cape Colville, thence round Ttihuia (Cow Island), off the entrance to Coromandel, finishing at Matiatia, a distance of 94 miles. The race is for keel yachts and, in addition to the cup and miniature, the winner will receive a cash prize of £7. The second prize is £2 and the third £l.
