NATIONAL SERVICE AUSTRALIAN PROPOSAL A VOLUNTARY SCHEME CANBERRA, Feb. 27 The Federal Cabinet has decided to Eupplement the plan for a manpower register with a women's register for service in a national emergency. The .whole scheme will be voluntary. Women will register in three age groups, namely, from 18 to 28 years, from 29 to 39 years, and over 39 years. The Prime Minister, Mr. «T. A. Lyons,.. said the services of women ■would be utilised in peace time in relief and mercy work, canteen work, transport activities, and the staffing of auxiliary services. In war time women would also be employed in production, and as substitutes for men in various fields, such as munition work and the clothing and food manufacturing industries.
