HAMILTON CRICKET

PITCHES FAVOUR BATSMEN There was, good scoring in the Hamilton competitions last Saturday. Old Boys in particular had a mastery over the Clandelawls attack, J. G. West. 87, giving a good example of patient batting in his display. It was pleasing to see R. Clough show a return to batting form with a breezy 38. . A curious mistake occurred in this game, apparently overlooked at the time, when the Old Boys' team declared its innings closed ;30 minutes before stumps. Law 54 requires swh a declaration to be made not later than an hour and forty minutes before the time for drawing stumps. Fortunately the mistake did not affect Claudelands detrimentally, for no wickets were lost in the half-hour of play remaining. The bowlers had a thankless task on an easy, true wicket. Hamilton East gave indications of recording a very big score when Badeley and Jordan became associated. The Hamilton bowling was played carefully, but runs came freely nevertheless. Badelev was restrained in his innings of 73, showing better concentration than lie has in club matches for some time. P. Jordan, on the other hand, batted crisply for 65, and was rarely troubled. In a total of 230, Pedrotti's five wickets for 47 was a good performance. He was bowling well and earned his wickets. The inter-house cricket tournament now being played in Hamilton has been the occasion of fast scoring, each match occupying only two hours. The games are played in the evenings from 5.15 p.m. onward. The fastest scoring yet achieved was in a match on the first evening's play, when 330 runs were scored In under tiro hours. At one stage 80 runs were added in 17 minutes.
