LEARNING TO SWIM
CHILDREN ENCOURAGED V, CITY BATH FACILITIES A real contribution to the success of the Learn-to-Swim Week'by the Auckland City Council is shown by the number of' children who took advantage of the free use .of the municipal baths. The council made the city baths free to children who were desirous of learning to swim during the week elided February 22 and 2713 children made use of these facilities. This was in addition to a large number of adults and okler children who desired to receive .swimming instruction and were admitted free for the purpose. Free facilities were provided at the three baths controlled, by the City the greatest number using the Hobsori Street bath, ! where 1401 children were admitted. The Parnell Bath had 659 children and Shelly Beach 653. As a further encouragement to schoolchildren to improve their swimming the council :inade the baths available to parties from various schools, a nominal charge nf one half-penny a head being made. This -resulted in 4418 children Yisiting the various baths. Of these, 2306 user! the Shelly Beach Bath, 1534 visited the Parnell Bath and 578 went to the Bobson Street Bath.
