SECOND READING PASSED REASON FOR INTRODUCTION (Received February 24, 7.15 p.m.) DUBLIN, Feb. 24 The Eire Treason Bill passed its second reading by 79 votes to 10. The Prime Minister, Mr. de Valera, said that no State in the world could depend on the goodwill of citizens for the maintenance of freedom. Force was always needed to safeguard liberty.

The text of the Eire Treason Bill provides the death penalty for treason inside and-outside the State, and imprisonment and fines for anyone encouraging and harbouring traitorous persons.
