RISING TEMPERATURES WIDESPREAD RAIN LATER The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows:—Pressure is still high over New Zealand, especially in the North Island, but has fallen over southeastern Australia. The forecast is for variable winds at first in the far north, otherwise north-westerlies to northerlies prevailing, strong in Cook Strait and the far south,- otherwise light to moderate, but gradually freshening. Seas rather rough to rough in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas, elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising on the west coast of the South Island, Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate but freshening north-west to ■ northerly winds. The weather is likely to be fair to fine at first, but clouding over and rain gradually developing in Westland and the far south, Ilain is likely to become more widespread during a the latter part of the week. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIR TO FINE AND MILD t The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Variable winds with light to moderate southerlies predominating at first, but later north-westerlies. The weather is likely to be fair to fine. Temperatures mild. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Another day of sunny weather, with the exception of a few hours of dull conditions during the afternoon, was experienced. The night was clear, A light and variable wind prevailed. The maximum temperature was 79 degrees and the minimum 62 degrees. Barometric pressure was high and steady. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.301R, Midnight, Wednesday . .. 30.26 in, Wellington.—The day was fine and mild, with a moderate to strong northwesterly wind. The maximum t-empera- , ture was 65.4 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the barometer read 30.1C8in. Christchurch. —The day was brilliantly fine and warm with a light easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 73.8 degrees, and the barometer reading at 'o p.m. was 30.07iin., falling slowly. Dunedin. —The sky was overcast in the morning, but the sun later shone brightly. There was a slight breeze from the north-east. The maximum temperature was 73 degrees and the barometer at 5 p.m. was rising at 30.20 in.
