CAR OVERTURNS

THREE MAORIS INJURED TWO PINNED UNDER VEHICLE DRIVER'S CONDITION SERIOUS [bt telegraph—ow coeeespoxdest] NEW PLYMOUTH. Thursday Three Maoris were admitted to the New Plymouth Hospital to-day, one in a serious condition, with injuries suffered when a tyre blow-out overturned their car on the main New PlymouthOpunake coastal highway, near Oakura, this morning and pinned two of them beneath it.

The car, an old model open tourer, contained four persons. When it overturned the driver, Mr. Alex Taueki, aged 34, married, a dairy factory employee, of Puniho Pa, and Miss Daisy Hikierera, aged 17, who is employed at Oakura but whose home is at Hillsborough, were pinned beneath the car. The driver suffered severe and extensive inffiuries and his condition is serious. Miss Hikierera suffered head injuries.

Mrs. Kimi Paora, aged 31, of Puniho, who suffered a broken collarbone and bead injuries, was thrown clear when the car overturned and was able to drag licr two companions from beneath it. The fourth occupant of the car, a girl who was being taken to the Oakura School, was uninjured. The fortunate arrival of ilr. E. S. Summers, a Transport Department inspector, on the scene soon after the accident enabled first-aid measures to be administered to the injured, who were then taken to New Plymouth Hospital.
