MOSTLY FAIE TO FINE COOLER TEMPERATURES The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows : —An anti-cyclone extends from southern Australia on to the north Tasman Sea. A westerly depression is crossing the South Island. The forecast, is for west to south-west winds, light' to moderate in the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere moderate to strong and of gale force in a few places, but decreasing. Seas rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, and parts of the west coast south of Kawhia, but decreasing, and elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Winds between west and south, light to moderate ijn the north, with slight to moderate seas, moderate to strong in the south, with rough but decreasing seas. The weather is likely to be mostly fair to fine, but occasional scattered but mainly light showers in western and far southern districts of the South Island. Temperatures cool to moderate. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIR TO FINE GENERALLY - *

The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to fresh southwesterly winds. The weather is likely to be fair to fine. Temperatures moderate. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —The day was fins and sunny and the night fairly clear, the wind being moderate to fresh from the south. The maximum temperature was 68 degrees and the minimum 58 degrees. Barometric pressure rose slightly. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.06 in. Midnight. Sunday ... .. 20.95 in, Wellington.—The day was cloudy and mild, with a fresh to strong northwesterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 65.5 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the weather was warm and sunny, with a light southwest breeze in the morning. There were light passing clouds in the aft#> noon, when the wind changed to the north-east. The maximum temperature was 70.2 degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 29.764 in., and was rising slowly. Dunedin. —The morning was brilliantly fine, with a firesh breeze from the south, but the wind changed to north-east in the afternoon, when the sky became overcast and the temperature dropped sharply. The maximum for the day was 68 degrees. The barometer rose steadily, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.78 in. The following official report was issued at 4 p.m. yesterday:—
