X-RAY FILM DANGER
STORAGE IN HOSPITALS [by TF.T.EGK APTT —OWN COnnESrOXTIKNT] NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday Doubt whether hospital authorities in tho Dominion realised the danger from X-ray negatives stored in their institutions was expressed at a meeting of the Ilawera Hospital Board to-day, when fire prevention and extinction were being discussed. It was stated that in the event of fire, fumes issuing from burning negatives could take heavy toll of patients confined to their beds.
The matter arose from a report by the superintendent of tho Hawera Fire Brigade, Mr. L. V. Gibson, in which he drew attention to the need for a fire-proof container for negatives stored in the hospital's X-ray department. Dr. W. S. Fogg, medical superintendent of the hospital, said that although tho now typo of safety film did not burn rapidly, it gave off a considerable volume of fumes.
The board appointed a sub-committee to consider the matter.
