QUEEN CARNIVAL

PAPAKURA FIXTURE Everything is practically ready for the commencement on March 1 of the Papakura Queen Carnival, which is to provide funds for the district's centennial memorial. This will take the form of a ladies' rest room and children's plavground. During the past fortnight meetings have been held by all the four competitors' committees. The supporters of Miss Jessie Walker (Drury Queen) have unanimously requested that the designation be changed to the United Districts Queen, which will include Drury, Opahekc, Ramarama, Ararimu, Hunua, Paparimu and Happy Valley. The Karaku Queen (Miss Myrtle Costar) has an area from Runciman to Papakura boundary westward. The interests of Papakura residents are divided between two competitors, Miss Marjorie Johnston, the business people's nominee, and Miss Ailsa Cartwright, representing the sports bodies.
