PIONEER OF FLYING STEVE DONOGHUE'S CLAIM [from our own correspondent] LONDON. Feb. 2 Stove Donoghue, the trainer and former jockey, claimed himself to be the pioneer of flying in the racing profession this week. Ho was a witness when an airways company called for a licence to run services to ■ race meetings. He said that, if there was no regular service, he would have to charter areoplanes or keep his own private machine. In giving his reasons, Donoghue said trainers could .get through much more work in a day by using aeroplanes. Before the coming of aircraft, trainers were able to " do" only one gallop a day when races were on. Now a- dozen were possible. After the gallops they could get to an aerodrome in half an hour, and, if they were delayed, an aeroplane would be sent to collect them. wherever they might be. Donoghue added that nearly all the leading jockeys, a good many owners, and some trainers flew to meetings. On being asked whether life was happier since the aeroplane had enabled a trainer to do 100 per cent more work a day, Donoghue replied: "I should say it is. There is not all the rush wo had in the old days." THE KING'S CUP SOME OF THE HANDICAPS (Received February 20. 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE.
