NEW ZEALAND WORKERS MINISTER VISITS FACTORIES "Given the facilities, I am convinced that New Zealand workers can produce goods, no matter how difficult or intricate, equal to any in the world," j said the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, yesterday. The Minister, who is engaged in a campaign to stimulate New Zealand secondary industries, and also in an inquiry as to what extent the substitution of local raw materials for imported is possible, inspected eight factories in Auckland yesterday. He was accompanied by the secretary of the department, Mr. L. J. Schmitt. Factories, visited by the Minister were those of Mason and Porter, Limited, manufacturing engineers; Alexander Harvey and Sons, Limited, manufacturers of milking machines, refrigerators and other goods; Buttons, Limited; Sportsply, Limited, tennis racquets and golf clubs; P. G. Wolfe and Sons, apple-juice manufacturers; James Hardie and Company, Limited, asbestoscement building materials; the Australian Glass Manufacturers' Company, Limited, and Brittain Wynyard and Company, Limited, hinge makers. Mr. Sullivan said he was delighted to find a sports goods factory that bad developed a market in the United States and South Africa. The department was also interested, in particular, in the fruit-juice industry and hoped to be able to formulate plans for its expansion.
