The soPibro aspect of darker suits and ensembles was, however, heightened by tho tan and clover shades which were also much in evidence.

The vogue for navy was exemplified by trim, tailored suits and woollen frocks, and this colour also provided the background for the many printed materials. Hats were, in the main, of the tailored type, but the larger straws were also to be seen. Tho sun shone more brightly later iu the afternoon and tho scene on the lawns, with a large attendance of town and country, visitors, was an animated one.
