FRANKLIN FIXTURE ATTENDANCE OF 14,000 RECORD GATE TAKINGS ADDITIONAL AWARDS £from our own correspondent] BUKEKOHE, Saturday The attendance at the Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society's 54th annual show, which concluded to-day, was a record. The gate-takings over the two days amounted to : £777, and the attendance is estimated at 14,000. 'lhe gate receipts were approximately £2OO greater than at any previous show held by the society. The grand parade was held this afternoon. Motor-cars k6pt streaming! into the showground from all quarters! throughout the morning, and by noon all the parking space was occupied. A large field on the adjoining farm was then made available by the owners and many more cars were parked as they arrived. The parade was introduced by a feature in the form of a march of decorated ponies, with child riders in fancy costume representing historical characters. The ideal weather made tho natural grandstand on two sides of tho ring very popular. The parade, excellently marshalled by Mr. C. Atchison, made a fine spectacle. The championship hunter competition for the Massey Memorial Gold Cup was the next event on * the programme. The winner, Mr. A. Walker, was presented with the cup by Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P. for Franklin, a son of the Prime Minister whom the trophy commemorates. The new rule making two-year-olds eligible .for championships in the cattlo classes was given particular point, Mr. J. McGowan's magnificent two-year-old heifer, Coldstream Purity, which won the Milking Shorthorn championship yesterday, being to-day given tho premier honours of tho show by winning' the championship for cows of all the dairy breeds.
