ANNUAL REGATTA HELD VICTORIA CLUB'S EVENTS KEEN CONTESTS WITNESSED The Victoria Cruising Club' was favoured with a full sail westerly breeze for its annual regatta on Saturday, and all events were keenly contested. The courses, starting and finishing off the j Western Reclamation, provided tlia 1 competitors with every kind of sailing, culminating in a run to the line, and, with spinnakers ballooning, the boata provided a spectacular sight for the large number of spectators ashore. The contestants for the Atta trophy (interclub challenge race for Y djjss) ' (Point Chevalier Sailing Club), Challenge (Tamaki Yacht Club), Mania (Ponsonby Cruising Club), Rebel (Victoria Cruising Club), Avenger (Richmond Cruising CJub), Karoro (Dcvonpcrt Yacht Club) and M tala (Manukau Cruising Club). Avenger led (he fleet over the line, followed by Challenge, Rebel and Mania. M'Tala was 3m 50s late. Bunched at Gunfire Z Class.— I Takapuna Division.- The small craft were bunched on the line at gunfire anil there was little to choose between them as they crossed. It was a hard beat to the first mark and they kept well together, with Ranee doing a little better than Robin and Wild Rose, while Tere and Cheerio made heavy weather of it astern, the rest being strung out. Ranee had increased her lead as they came iu from the Shoal Bay mark and on the final run in maintained t-er position to get the gun. The race started at 3.20 p.m. The finish was timed: —Ranee (4m), 4h Cm 235; Robin (scr), 4h 7m os; Wild Rose (3m), 4h 7m 255; Tere (4m), 4h 10m 265; Cheerio (3m 30s), 4b 10m 555; Nalena (2m 30s), 4h 12m 14s.

The result on corrected times was:—Ranee, 1; Wild Rose, 2; ,Tere, 3. Z Class. —Pupuke Division: Another good start was effected, with a hunch crossing the line at gunfire. As they settled down for the beat to windward, Te Utu, Tanya and Water Beetle showed out, with Swish and Tamate pointing better. Tanya capsized and her crew was picked up by a launch, which also towed the boat to safety. Short seas were experienced crossing the channel to the Shoal Bay mark, and Swish took the lead, with Tamate close up. Swish and Tamate fought it out to the next mark and on the run down wind to the line Swish kept in front to get the gun. The race started at 3.30 p.m. The finish was timed:—Swish (scr), 4h 12m 435; Tamate (2m 30s), 4h 13m Is; Te Utu (4m), 4h 13m 41s; Falcon (4m), 4h 14m 16s; Josal (4m), 4h 15m 225; Te Uira '2m 30s), 4h 16m 539; Water Beetle (3m), 4h 18m 335. The result on corrected times was:—To Utu, 1; Falcon. 2: Tamate, 3. ■
