AUCKLAND STAFF ARCHITECTURE LECTURER FORMER STUDENT CHOSEN From 14 applicants, including a number resident overseas, Mr. Richard Horton Toy, a gradulate of the School of Architecture, Auckland University College, has been appointed lecturer and studio instructor in architecture at the school. The position is a new one and represents an addition to the staff. Mr. Toy, who is at present in London, went to England in 1937 as holder of the New Zealand University travelling scholarship in architecture for that year. He was born in Canada 27 years ago and received his earlier education
in Birmingham and at the Mount Albert Grammar School. After attending the School of Architecture from 1931 to 1936, he received the degree of bachelor of architecture, and continued his studies at the university for the M.A. degree, also qualifying for the associateship of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
Mr. Toy worked in the offices of two Auckland architects before leaving for England and spent six months last year in the architectural, office of the London Passenger Transport Board. He will probably take up his duties at the school about half-way through the first term of this year.
