1000 FISH CAUGHT

HUGE HAUL OF KAHAWAI MAORIS WITH HAND NETS [n?OM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] TIKITIKI, Wednesday More than 1000 kahawai were caught by Maoris using hand nets at the entrance to tho Waiapu River recently. Heavy rains caused a fresh in the river, which, straightened its course at tho entrance. This brought thousands of kahawai into tho mouth of tho river, and the Maoris, anticipating this, were ready with their nets. They had a busy time, practically scooping out the fish, more than 1000 being brought ashoro. The Waiapu kahawai are known for their splendid condition and size, and the catch was a particularly satisfactory ono.
