JUDGE RETIRES
AMERICAN SUPREME COURT LONG CAREER ON BENCH (Received February 14, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Feb. 13 Mr. Justice L. D. Brandeis has retired from the Supreme Court. While he did not give a reason, it is known he has been suffering from poor .health recently, and it is rumoured he is con-
templating aiding the world movement to help his distressed Jewish coreligionists. Mr. Brandeis' retirement -will permit President Roosevelt to make another so-called Liberal appointment, althougn since Mr. Brandeis came from the same group the complexion of the Court will not change.
Mr. Justice Brandeis, who is now in his 83rd year, was appointed to the Bench on June 1, 1916. Only two of the present Supreme Court members were on the Bench when Mr. Brandeis took his seat, these being Mr. Justice Charles Evan Hughes, appointed in May, 1910, and now Chief Justice, and Mr. Justice James Clark Mcßeynolds, appointed in August, 1914.
