BUILDING COSTS RISE
ASSEMBLY HALL TENDERS SCHOOL COMMITTEES PLIGHT] [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TE AROHA, Tuesday A forceful reminder of the steady risa in building costs over the past 12 months was afforded the To Aroha - School Committee in answer to .its request that the assembly hall be pro* ceeded with on the original lines planned last year, a £2 for £1 subsidy. The Education Department replied that the lowest tender for the building was now £2068, against the former . figure of £I6BO. The committee was therefore asked to increase its subsidy from £SOO to £6S9 6s Sd. The committee had not anticipated being called upon to find anything other than the £SOO already set aside from queen carnival funds, aud it was decided, after protracted discussion, to write to the department pointing out that funds were limited to the original sum, outlining the original scheme and requesting serious reconsideration of an increased subsidy.
