TOURING RUGBY TEAM
AUSTRALIANS FOR ENGLAND On its way to England this year, the Australian Rugby football team, at the invitation of the Ceylon Union, will play a match at Colombo against an All-Cevlon team. Inquiries have also boon received from the Eastern Rugby Union of the United States, as to whether the team could travel to England via the United States, and play matches on the East Coast. The American body has been advised that the conditions of the tour do not permit travelling to England via the United States, and that weather conditions preclude matches on the return journey. Mr. J. Wylie, acting chairman of the San Francisco World's Fair, invited the team to play in California during the fair in February, 1939. Jt was pointed out that the team would not leave Australia until July, 1939, but that if he was interested in the team visiting California in February, 1940, on the return journey, the union would consider a proposition.
