TENNIS TOURNEYS

OPEN COMPETITION WANTED It was unanimously decided at the last annual conference of the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia to support Mr. Norman Brooke's motion favouring the holding of open tournaments between amateurs and professionals on the mime lines as open golf tournaments, wltiich have been successfully staged for many years. This resolution will be included on tho agenda of the next International Lawn Tennis Federation meeting. Closely following the Australian Association's decision comes the news that the All England, Tennis Association has agreed to meet leading professionals in a round table conference to discuss the future of professional and amateur tennis generally, Such a conference may have far-reaching results, as the Lawn Tennis Association of England is a conservative body, and has so far refused to recognise professionals other than from the point of view of coaching.
